Genesis 1:3-5
Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
We are so accustomed to having the light of day automatically fed into our lives every day that we have no idea what it means to not have it. No one has ever experienced life without sunlight!
But if we see the true nature of existence, the spiritual life, we can observe a sunless life by seeing life without God. A Sonless life.
God always intended us to live with Him at the center. That struggle that we each deal with can destroy us. The reason prisoners are confined to solitary is that no sunlight takes the will to fight out of them. The same goes for our spirit. Stay in the dark long enough and the desire to fight for something better will go away.
In the great north, they experience the dark sometimes for as much as 60 days. It's hard to imagine if you are not in that culture and location, but even when we rise early in the winter to go to work, it can be a bit daunting as we begin with no daylight.
Our hearts suffer the same way. We live in total darkness of heart when the Light of Jesus doesn't exist there. It's like the world before God put the light of day in place.
