Matthew 1:1-6a
The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham: Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers. Judah begot Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez begot Hezron, and Hezron begot Ram. Ram begot Amminadab, Amminadab begot Nahshon, and Nahshon begot Salmon. Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David the king.

What is remarkable about this lineage is the characters involved.

Abraham, the one who lied about his wife twice. Jacob, the one who deceived his father and brother. Judah, who cheated with a daughter-in-law. Rahab, who was a prostitute. David who cheated and murdered.

Yet Abraham was the father of the nation that would produce the Messiah. Jacob would be the man to which that nation would be named after. Remember his name became Israel. Jesus, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah! Rahab, the great, great grandmother of King David. King David, the standard for all kings from there forward.

All these accomplished things for Israel, yet they had great failures as well. So, we are left with no excuses in our struggles. We can overcome and become effective. Or we can sit idle and watch others do the work, while the ones we are called to bring Jesus to remain lost because we live in our mistakes and lack.

We must choose to get up and be something more than the failure we believe we are. Jesus doesn't define us that way, so we shouldn't.

Bottom line, there is more, and we are all called for the work. Whether we think we are qualified or not.
